Approximately 300 participants came out to enjoy a day of treasure hunting. Kids and adults of all ages took part in games, geocaches and information sessions. The idea was to locate hidden ‘treasures’ using a GPS or a map. Some of the games were ‘Pin the Horn on the Pachyrhinosaurus’, ‘Spell These Words’ and ‘What Can You Find?’ Other activities enjoyed by all included colouring, racing and face painting. Palaeontologist Phil Bell gave a talk and Al Lakusta was there for questions.
The purpose of this first annual event was to raise awareness for the upcoming museum and to answer questions about Pipestone Creek Dinosaur Initiative or the upcoming River of Death & Discovery Dinosaur Museum.
It was a huge success! A beautiful side benefit to the event was that it brought not only families together for a new and interesting activity, but also the community as a whole. Families brought friends and neighbors. People are very interested in what is going on and it was fantastic to share information about our regional resources.
Participants from as far away as Spirit River and Edmonton came out to enjoy the day. We raised nearly $3,000 and many smiles.
